Minnesota Birds
Birds of Minnesota, and especially in my own back yard in Minneapolis. In photographing birds, I go after the details; I want to be looking the bird in the eye. And that means getting close, even if it involves a bit of trickery.
I enjoy watching birds in a hard Minnesota winter, and learning about amazing skills and knowledge they need in order to survive here year round.
Prints of all my photos are available here.

Baltimore Oriole
A male Baltimore Oriole. The brilliant yellow, orange and black Icterus galbula is a small blackbird, common in Eastern North America. Its preferred food is ripe, dark-colored fruit and it is easily attracted by orange halves placed on branches. They have a variety of calls, including a distinctive chattering associated with display and territoriality. Here in Minnesota, they show up in groups in the spring.
