Minnesota Birds
Birds of Minnesota, and especially in my own back yard in Minneapolis. In photographing birds, I go after the details; I want to be looking the bird in the eye. And that means getting close, even if it involves a bit of trickery.
I enjoy watching birds in a hard Minnesota winter, and learning about amazing skills and knowledge they need in order to survive here year round.
Prints of all my photos are available here.

This pair of Great Blue Herons, Ardea herodias, are nesting in a rookery not far from downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. Working as a team, they've made it through some harsh early spring weather, and built a solid nest. The hardest part is probably over, but months of work remain until the young are able to leave the nest. Next year, they'll do it all over again - but with different partners.
