Minnesota Birds
Birds of Minnesota, and especially in my own back yard in Minneapolis. In photographing birds, I go after the details; I want to be looking the bird in the eye. And that means getting close, even if it involves a bit of trickery.
I enjoy watching birds in a hard Minnesota winter, and learning about amazing skills and knowledge they need in order to survive here year round.
Prints of all my photos are available here.

Red-winged blackbird in a Minnesota marsh
The red-winged blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) is a passerine bird of the family Icteridae. It inhabits wetlands and grassy, open areas, especially where cattails are found. When making their call, they try to look as imposing as possible.
