January Sun On The Street

The Mineapolis skyways offer a unique view of city streets. Here the low January sun is reflected onto 3rd Avenue just south of 3rd Street. A fisheye lens takes it all in.

In the Minneapolis skyway crossing over 4th Street, connecting the Haaf Parking Ramp with the Hennepin County Public Safety Center. The IDS Center and Wells Fargo Center are in the distance. I like the industrial feel and the crazy geometry in this skyway.

Soo Line Building skyway

The Soo Line Building was, at 19 stories, the tallest building in Minneapolis from its completion in 1919 until the Foshay Tower surpasssed it in 1929. Originally built for the First National Bank of Minneapolis, it later became the headquarters of the Soo Line Corporation. ("Soo" was a phonetically spelled reference to the Minneapolis and Sault St. Marie Railroad.) Today it's a luxury apartment building. This skyway crosses 5th Street and connects to the 5th Street Towers building, seen at the top of the photo.

This skyway crosses 7th Street into the Thrivent Financial building in Minneapolis. On this side there's an entrance to a Hyatt Hotel. It's a surprising pjlace when you first encounter it, thanks to a much better-than-necessary architectural design and a generous amount of glass all around. A great place to stand for a minute in the winter and take in the light.
