This Elgin Model 5 pocket watch dates from 1895 and originally belonged to an ordinary Midwestern farmer. It hasn't been cleaned or polished, so it wears the patina of age. The Elgin National Watch Company was for many years the biggest watch maker in the world. Today, there's no trace left of its once grand factory in Elgin, Illinois.
